6th day in cannes - my very last day here!!

sunset on the mediterranean - mon 30th jan 2012 - cannes

it's been very cold - in the 30's - and raining today, with a chance of snow. and at least half, maybe 75% of the people had already left the conference, so it was very empty at the palais de festivales!!

nonetheless, i met with prasad from virginia about a new app for iPhone and android that promotes your show 2 hours before the event to all the fans who also have the app. i also reconnected with rosita & michael (commander cornflake) from austria, and herve from nyc, plus met with andrew from south africa. so i was still a productive little electro singer-songwriter today!!

4th day in Cannes - Sun 29th January 2012!!

gfire w/deb & lynne cannes sun 29th jan 2012 - look out charlie's angels!!

okay bloggers - you are probably wondering - how was gfire's show last night? actually, despite some serious technical difficulties, it went really well!! i kept getting stopped today by various audience members who told me how much they enjoyed my set!! so brava for me. ;)

unfortunately, due to said technical difficulties, i did not have time to get someone to take photos of my performance. BUT, i am told - that in perhaps 1-2 months time - there may be some video of my set available through MIDEM. we shall see.....

gfire - 3rd day in Cannes Sat jan 28 2012

gfire - 3rd day in Cannes Sat jan 28 2012 - lunch with roy elkins from broadjam.com

another busy day!!

i had two meetings scheduled which went fabulously - a morning meeting with mike wilson from the UK's Medulla Music and lunch with Roy Elkins from broadjam.com in Madison, Wisconsin, USA (see picture above). sweet - i hope to do business with both gentlemen.

the weather was not good - gray, rainy, about 49 degrees - glad i went to the beach yesterday!!

and finally, i got some kinder eggs at the market. yay!! they are not available in the US because people are afraid their babies will eat the toys. hmm - doesn't seem to bother the europeans!!

gfire's 2nd day in cannes!! Fri 01.27.12

gfire with Francesca, Francesco, Claudine at Da Laura Fri 01.27.12

wow this is sooo cool!! it's my last day of leisure before MIDEM begins tomorrow morning, so i've had my 1st cappucino, visited the Mono-prix shop (it's sort of like Target, they have food, clothes, household items, batteries, etc.) and gotten groceries and hopefully i'll get in a walk on the beach!!

i met a couple from Italy and a gyrotonic instructor at Da Laura, the cappucino provider/Italian restaurant, plus my contact here Claus and his girlfriend Pascale.

Thursday 26th jan 2012 - 1st day in Cannes!!

gfire - 1st night in Cannes apartment - Thurs Jan 26, 2012!!

Howdy y'allz!!

I am sitting in my quite spacious apartment about 2 blocks from the palais des festivales. wow!! it took us a while to configure the internet, but it's working now. i even purchased a French cell phone for the week if anyone wants to call me from the MIDEM conference.

gfire's singing influences #3 - Sandy Denny

I'm pretty sure that the average American has never even heard of Sandy Denny. She came to prominence in the British folk-rock music scene in the late 1960's as a member of Fairport Convention, whose members also included the great guitarist/songwriter Richard Thompson. She also released several wonderful solo albums after leaving Fairport before her tragically early death in 1978 at the age of 31.

gfire's singing influences #2 - Hank Williams

I'm a bit of a Johnni (as in a female Cash) come lately to the world of old-time country, having grown up in hard-rock/metal territory as a middle class Baltimorean.

But once I get into something great, I cling tight and ride it away, like the Cancerian I am - and boy are there some GOOD sounds to be had from the old-time deep south.
