gfire recaps SXSWgfire recaps SXSW

gfire had an incredible experience during SXSW last week, Wednesday, March 14 through Saturday, March 17, 2007.

Among her highlights:

1. A near perfect performance of her new solo electronic set at the "Invasion of the GoGirls!" showcase at Austin Java, 12th and Lamar, Saturday March 17. We (the other GoGirls and I) played to about 50-60 very enthusiastic people under the Austin Java outdoor tent and it was both very musical and lots of fun.

2. While watching the amazing Martha Wainwright on Thursday, March 15, at the SXSW Trade Show Day Stage, one of my table mates got a message on his Blackberry. Pete Townsend was about to play at La Zona Rosa along with his girlfriend, singer/pianist Rachel Fuller. Wow, what a great surprise - and an excellent show. Pete played and sang several acoustic tunes, Rachel Fuller did a great half-hour set of her own and there were several notable singer/songwriters on the bill as well, including another mini-set by Martha Wainwright and several songs by (Nick Drake influenced) Alexi Murdoch.

3. While stopping by the Taylor Guitars table at the SXSW Trade Show on Friday, March 16, I happened to remark to the two men working the table that I really missed having a guitar around to write songs on - that I had once owned a Martin D-18, but had to sell it for rent. A man I had never seen before, a Nathan from San Francisco, was about to take home the baby Taylor Guitar that he had just won in their drawing. Nathan turned to me and said "I am going to give you this guitar!" Yes, Nathan gave me a baby Taylor guitar, perfectly sized for my little 4'11" frame and kid-sized hands! Turns out, Nathan already had a baby Taylor guitar back home. Thanks Nathan, wherever you are! (I did give him a copy of "triangle" and a big hug of thanks.)
