I was watching a DVD the other evening of an Ella Fitzgerald 1957 concert in Belgium. Ella at her finest, to be sure, accompanied by Oscar Peterson on piano and 3 other top-class musicians. And I really thought "wow, this IS singing perfection." I don't really like jazz all that much, but Ella was in a class all her own. It isn't just that she utilizes all 3 octaves of her voice and sings with amazing intonation. What really floors me is how MUSICAL she was - I love all of her little musical innuendos and how smooth and easy it all sounds, even though it is not easy at all.
After listening to her concert Saturday evening (Nov. 1, Day of the Dead and all), I feel like I really sang well at my Green Muse show on Sunday, Nov. 2. Listening to the best helps me perform at my best.
